Dartmoor Site: White Tor Fort

White Tor Fort. Cox Tor North-east and Roos Tor North-west settlements

This site is featured on the Princetown 2: White Tor Fort & Langstone Moor Circle & Settlements walk. These photos were taken on the way from Roos Tor to White Tor (SX54237867 Butler Vol. 2. Map 31: 6, 7, 13, 14). The first two photos are views over Cox Tor North-east settlements with Wedlake valley in the background. There are 24 hut circles and 5 enclosures in this group. The next photos are of hut circles from the Roos Tor North-west settlement. This is one of the largest settlements on Dartmoor with 73 huts. We then move on to the White Tor Fort which has two massive concentric walls. Cairns and hut circles are scattered inside and outside the walls of the fort. The last 4 photos here are taken from the Northern side of White Tor and include the Youldon Brook reave and the Cudipptown Down upper reave. The junction of these reaves is incorporated into an enclosure containing 15 huts with another 10 outside the enclosure.

These photos were taken on the 25th July 2010.
