HER: A circular enclosure bounded by a bank consisting of small stone. Part of the interior has been filled in with cleared field stones. there is no trace of an entrance. Certain identification of the feature as a hut circle could not be made. No orthostats are visible and the construction using small stones is unusual for a hut. The exposed situation on the crest of a spur is more appropriate to a cairn but the walling, at best about 0.4 m. high, appears too regular for a cairn rimButler: A large well preserved ring cairn (fig 11.1), marked as a hut circle on OS maps, can be seen over the wall on the crest of the ridge. It lies on the boundary between the first two fields, fortuitously preserved as a convenient dump for unwanted stone. A circular bank of small stones, 0.4m high and with an external diameter of 13.5 m (9.5 m within the bank), surrounds a flat interior slightly above ground level. A mound of stones, also perhaps collected from the surrounding field, fills more than half the interior, but the uncovered area shows no sign of trenching and is perhaps undisturbed. A short arc of stones curves around the north side.
Update 02/08/2026. The feature might be visible on Google satellite when compared to Butler Fig 11.1. The resultant grid reference is now used for this record. Formerly listed as a "reported cairn" (probably because the HER implied a hut circle), now changed to a Stone Ring cairn circle (after Turner).
